So when a slump in tourism threatens to sink her family’s fishing charter business, Piper recruits Benny to help her win a major fishing tournament and the $25,000 grand prize. It seems like a perfect plan. Put her skills to use, win some money and help her parents weather the storm. Except that now Benny cares more about hanging out with his girlfriend Marina than helping Piper. And he keeps disappearing, usually after something suspicious happens on the island. Add in Logan, a Michigan transplant with a growing interest in something other than Piper’s fishing, and it looks like practicing for the tournament will be anything but easy. On the Line by Jackie Nastri Bardenwerper

Story: Piper is a sixteen year old who is really good at fishing. In fact she’s a celebrity in the island of Islamorada, which happens to be a small island off the coast of Key West in Florida. Piper really hasn’t had much experience with boys, but she doesn’t seem to care because she has her best friend Benny by her side. Now tourism hasn’t been good, which threatens her family’s fishing charter. Piper enters a major fishing tournament that has a grand prize of $25,000. She knows this money could really help her family. As Piper prepares for the tournament she is met with lots of obstacles that could side track her. Including her best friend, who begins to date a girl and keeps disappearing when strange things happen on the island. Then there’s Logan, the boy from Michigan who is not only interested in her for her fishing skills. He makes Piper and the reader’s heart beat a little harder.

Our rating: 5 out of 5 fishing stars

Review: We hate to admit that at first we weren’t too excited to read a book about a girl who likes to fish, but boy were we wrong. This is one of those books once you start reading you don’t want to put down. Every character is so well-developed that you feel as they are real and you actually know them. They are authentic teenagers and not adults pretending to be teens. Jackie also does an amazing job describing Islamorada and making it part of the story. At the end of the book we wanted to jump on a plane and go there. Hopefully we could run into our own Logan. This is a great summer read. Trust us!!!

So sit by the beach and read On the Line.
